Aam Amilia : Sundanese Author and Productive Journalist

Aam Amilia  also known as Anna Mustikaati, is a Sundanese author and journalist. However, her partner, Abdullah Mustappa, is also a very prolific author. In literature and writing, she wishes to be remembered as a discoverer and guide of talent in writing, especially in Sundanese. In the 1970s, she was part of Manglé’s editorial team and discovered young talents such as Holisoh, Yoseph Iskandar, Taufik Faturrahman, Tatang Sumarsono, and others. Although they were still teenagers at the time, they would later become famous Sundanese authors.

Apart from being an author, Aam Amilia is also an Indonesian journalist. During her career, she has been the editor of Manglé and contributed to various media, including Pikiran Rakyat and several magazines such as Hanjuang, Mingguan Pelajar, and Sipatahoenan. From 1996 to 2002, she worked at PT Granesia, and from 2002 to 2003, she was involved with Galura magazine. Not only that, Aam Amilia was also the Chairperson of the Sundanese Literature Association (Patrem) until 2010.

Educational History and Early Career

Meanwhile, Aam Amilia was born in Cicalengka, Bandung, on December 21, 1946. Her educational history covers elementary school to high school in Bandung. She attended SD Lengkong Besar and SD Nilem, then continued to SMP Negeri 3 Bandung and graduated from SMA Negeri 1 Bandung. After that, she attended the Faculty of Law at UNPAD, where she earned a baccalaureate degree. His first short story was written in Indonesian and published in “Kuntum Mekar” Pikiran Rakyat when she was 15 years old, still in junior high school.

Talking about her works, Aam Amilia is very interested in writing short stories, comics, novels, and even essays. Her first Sundanese work was published in Manglé in 1963 under “Timburu”. Although she started publishing her work in junior high school. She has been writing since she was in elementary school. She once wrote a poem to her elementary school teacher, Sarah.

To date, she had written more than 200 short stories in Sundanese, 50 short stories in Indonesian, and several novels in Sundanese. About 50 Sundanese short stories written by Aam were collected in an anthology titled “Panggung Wayang”. Some of her other notable works include “Asmara Ngambah Sagara” (1966), “Samagaha; Jago-Jago Bandung Selatan” (children’s story, 1973), “Karena Kasih Sayangmu” (1975), “Puputon” (1976), “Buron, Lalangsé,” and many more. Aam’s short stories are often published in various magazines, both in Sundanese and Indonesian.
